First edition. One of 1,150 numbered copies. The initial letters of each of the six chapters are designed after those from the original edition of Henry VIII's diatribe against Luther.

Finely bound by The Chelsea Bindery in full red morocco, miniature portrait of Henry VIII set into the front board and a miniature portrait of Henry's second wife Anne Boleyn set into the back board, five raised bands to spine gilt, twin black lettering labels to second and third spine panels, cream calf onlays to other panels elaborately decorated gilt. Cream calf onlaid panels to boards with a blind quilted design and Tudor roses gilt. Silk doublures and endpapers, inner dentelles gilt, all edges gilt. Illustrated throughout. A fine copy.
