First Doves Press edition, first impression. One of 150 copies on paper out of a total limited edition of 162 copies. A Latin poem of the third or fourth century AD, "The Vigil of Venus" describes the awakening of the natural world during a spring festival, an unusual theme for a classical poem.
Octavo. Original limp vellum, titles to spine gilt. In a marbled slipcase. Two bookplates to front pastedown, one to rear pastedown. Bubbling to pastedowns, particularly the rear. An excellent copy.
