First edition of this historical novel, set in seventeenth-century Western Connecticut, also known by its alternative title, The Wept of Wish-ton-Wish, under which it was published later the same year in America.
3 volumes, duodecimo (183 × 120 mms). Contemporary pink half calf by Harrison of Belfast, black morocco labels, decoration to spines in blind, marbled boards, endpapers and edges. Bookseller's ticket to front pastedown. Some occasional light foxing, spines rubbed and faded to a light tan with some light surface loss to leather, front joint of volume I cracked but held firm by cords, still a good copy.
