Edited by the noted antiquarian Sir Nicholas Harris Nicolas and printed by the younger Charles Whittingham for William Pickering, himself a keen angler and a collector of angling books, who commissioned the artist Thomas Stothard to visit Dovedale to produce sketches.
2 volumes, tall octavo (270 × 176 mm). Nineteenth-century green morocco by Riviere, spines elaborately gilt in compartments, covers panelled in gilt with cornerpieces, marbled endpapers, inner dentelles and all edges gilt. 2 portrait frontispieces to volume I, 66 plates, 29 engravings within the text, 10 engraved headpieces. Pickering's ticket to front pastedown of volume I; bookplate of Philip Humberston to each volume. Bindings lightly rubbed, spines browned, foxing throughout, offsetting from plates. A very good set.
