A handsomely bound set of voyages and travels. Hakluyt took such patriotic pride in his countrymen's exploits in the fields of travel and adventure that he devoted his life to preserving the records of all English voyages. His Voyages was the greatest assemblage of travel accounts and navigations to all parts of the world collected up to its time, and a primary source for early New World exploration. At Hakluyt's death his manuscripts fell into the hands of Purchas, who added to them many more voyages and travels. He followed the general plan of Hakluyt, but frequently put the accounts into his own words. A very attractive set divided into 12 volumes of Haklyut and 20 of Purchas.

32 volumes, octavo (218 × 140 mm). Mid 20th-century brown half morocco, spine compartments in black and gilt, brown cloth sides, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, others untrimmed. Frontispieces, maps, and plates throughout. Spines a little faded, occasional light spotting to edges and contents. An excellent set.
