The Montagu edition, one of the earliest collected works of Francis Bacon and the most important literary achievement of its editor, who also contributed two articles on Bacon to The Retrospective Review in 1821. Originally published in 16 volumes, this handsomely bound set contains 17 as volume XVI has been bound in two parts.
17 volumes, octavo (218 × 138 mm). 20th-century brown crushed morocco, spines gilt in compartments, marbled sides and endpapers, top edges gilt, others untrimmed. Frontispiece to volume I. Lightly rubbed at extremities. An excellent set.
