Second and last edition, improved from the first of the previous year by additions and corrections to 1 May 1818. Andrew Johnstone's London directory was a substantial work and by far the most comprehensive directory of the city to date. It includes an alphabetical arrangement of London streets and also has lists of the names and occupations of each householder, an alphabetical list of persons, and one of trades arranged alphabetically with the names of persons engaged in each trade. The directory was not a financial success, however, and was discontinued after this second edition, but it was not to be rivalled for usefulness until the advent of Kelly's Directories. Both first and second editions are rare in commerce.
Octavo (206 × 128 mm). Contemporary black roan, smooth spine lettered and dated in gilt, small decorative motifs in compartments between gilt rules, sides with a decorative roll border in gilt. Rubbed, a little worn in a few places, some light browning, but a very good firm copy in an attractive, though unpretentious trade binding.
