AUSTEN, Jane.
Sense and Sensibility. A Novel.
First Bentley edition, the third edition overall, also the first one-volume edition. Bentley bought the copyrights of all Jane Austen's works to include them in his Standard Novels series, apparently aiming at the private buyer, as circulating libraries still had copies of the originals. Bentley later reissued the volumes as a set, but this copy is from the original individual issue, numbered XXIII in the Standard Novels series.
Octavo (164 × 105 mm). Contemporary black half calf, marbled sides. Frontispiece and vignette title. Lacking the series title as often. Binding rubbed, hinges cracked, endpapers darkened. A very good copy.
