"This famous and often reprinted work provides an entertaining glimpse at the life of an English officer in words and pictures. among the numerous plates depicting British life in India are excellent, tinted illustrations of tiger shooting and pig sticking with accompanying text descriptions" (Czech).

Quarto (282 × 199 mm) Contemporary half burgundy pebble-grained morocco on dun pebbled-grained cloth, title direct to the spine which is gilt in compartments with double fillet panels, arabesque foliate corner-pieces framing floral central tools, double gilt rules to spine and corner edges, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. With two tint lithograph "vignette title" and 39 similar plates. A little rubbed, spine a touch sunned, some spotting on the boards, occasional, largely marginal, foxing, an attractive copy.
