First Edition. Scarce, COPAC has BL and Birmingham only, OCLC records a single copy at the Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas. A parody of Cowper's John Gilpin with plates, lampooning the arrival of Railway Tourism in Brighton, the line opened in late 1841. The text and plates are signed "C.D.", the frontispiece "C. Derby". A note verso of the title explains that "Any profit arising from the sale of this work will be given to the Sussex County Hospital." Robert Folthorp seems to have been - very lightly -active for a very short period, this showing as his first publication, the last listed on COPAC being a lecture of photography by James Ellis published in 1856. This copy from the library of the novelist John Fowles with his ownership inscription dated 1963 to the inside of the upper wrap.

Octavo. (210mm x 143mm). Lithographed frontispiece and 9 other similar plates, each with caption text, 12pp. poem Slightly browned, stitching a little strained, but overall very good in the original green moiré cloth covered card wraps, title in gilt to the upper wrap, a touch rubbed, cloth lifting at the corners.
