First Edition. Decidedly uncommon. Account of a controversial and intriguing career. Popham developed the first comprehensive flag signalling system for the Navy, carried Baird on the expedition for the occupation of Cape Town, instigated the disastrous Argentine Expedition and served at the Scheldt. Two letters from the author to the Naval Historian Richard Ollard loosely inserted. The first thanking him for his review of the present work in the Spectator, the second on a matter relating to impressment raised in the review.

Octavo. Coloured portrait frontispiece and 16 black and white plates, illustrations to the text. Near fine in dust jacket.
