First edition, sole printing. One of a limited edition of only 15 numbered copies reproducing in facsimile a 1918 letter from Faulkner to his friend Hubert Starr. The two had been trying to enlist in the RAF, cultivating fake English accents and biographies, and this letter is a continuation of their game. The 21-year-old Faulkner claims to have "killed a nigger" and then errupts with anger at his pen before referring to Americans as "these bounders from the colonies". The young author's artistic talent is displayed in a sketch of himself as an RAF flight commander, which also graces the cover. A rare and unusual Faulkner item.
