JOYCE, James.
Chamber Music.
First Edition. First Impression, First Issue. Chamber Music was published by Elkin Mathews with a distinct lack of faith: they printed just 509 copies and then only bound a small proportion of the sets of sheets calling for two further bindings over the the following 8 years. This first issue is distinguishable by the laid paper used for the endpapers, the correct centring of the text in signature C and the lighter shade of cloth used for the binding. Copies of the first issue are really quite scarce - the last one at auction being sold 10 years ago. This is the author's first regularly published work.
Small quarto. Original pea green cloth, titles to upper board and spine gilt. Housed in s quarter green morocco slipcase. Pictorial title page. A lovely copy.
