First edition, first impression. Inscribed by Naomi Mitchison, the author's daughter, on the front free endpaper, "Gert with love from Naomi 1972". Louisa Haldane was married to prominent physiologist John Scott Haldane, who developed the first gas mask. Their son, J. B. S. Haldane, was an evolutionary biologist who founded the field of population genetics, and their daughter Naomi Mitchison became a prominent writer.
