First edition in English, from the library of the film critic Dilys Powell (1901-1995), whose first job after Oxford was secretary and literary assistant to Lady Ottoline Morrell, with her note to the front free endpaper, "From Kot's library 1955", i.e. this is one of the translator's own copies. The material, all previously unpublished, includes a letter from Dostoevsky to his brother, letters to Maikov, to his wife, and to Pobiedonoszev, and reminiscences of Dostoevsky by his wife.
Octavo. Original blue cloth, white spine label printed in black, top edge stained blue, others uncut and partly unopened. With the grey dust jacket printed in black. Frontispiece portrait by V. G. Perov, folding facsimile plate. Slight spotting to edges, first gathering a little proud, but an excellent copy in the jacket with tanned spine.
