COMENIUS, Jan Amos.
Lexicon Atriale Latino-Latinum,
Simplices & nativas rerum nomenclationes, è Ianua linguae Latinae jam notas, in elegantes variè commutare docens.
First edition of this lexicon by Comenius, part of his complex educational project, issued concurrently with his Opera didactica omnia, also published in Amsterdam. It remains an indispensible tool to the Latinist as the lexicon is far more than a mere word list, encompassing a rich diversity of Latin idioms, sayings and proverbs not easily met with elsewhere. The book is rare in commerce, with no copy sold at auction in the past 35 years.
Small octavo (158 × 92 mm). Contemporary limp vellum, spine titled in manuscript at head, publication date (now faded) later added at foot. Vellum just splitting at foot of front cover, a little faint dampstaining in top margin of first few leaves, a very good copy.
