First US edition, first printing. Originally published anonymously in 1894, Persian Pictures is the travel memoir of Gertrude Bell (1868–1926), a female adventurer who, along with T. E. Lawrence, became particularly influential in British policy-making in the Middle East at the beginning of the 20th-century. A lovely copy of a book that is scarce, particularly so in the dust jacket.

Octavo. Original grey cloth backed fuchsia boards, titles and pictorial decoration to spine and upper board in black and gold. With the dust jacket. 2 tanned spots from bookplate adhesive on front pastedown. Lightly rubbed and dulled to extremities, spine slightly faded. An excellent copy in the very lightly rubbed jacket with a few small nicks.
