First Edition, Second Impression, still from American sheets with a cancel title. Mahan, "the Evangelist of Sea Power", proposes Nelson as the British embodiment thereof in this well-researched and well-written biography.
2 volumes, octavo. Original blue cloth, spines lettered gilt, upper covers with gilt design of ships, dark blue endpapers, top edges gilt. Photogravure portrait frontispiece to each and 17 other similar plates, mostly portraits, 20 maps and battle plans, some folding. Slight bruise to the tail edge of the upper board of Volume I, heads and tails of spines crumpled, but overall an excellent set.
