First edition, perhaps remainder issue. Irish family saga of the C18th, the author's first novel. Boland went on to find fame as a playwright and screenwriter, adapting her own play "The Prisoner" for the 1955 film with Alec Guiness and Jack Hawkins, and working on King Vidor's "War and Peace" and "Anne of a Thousand Days."
Octavo. Original green cloth, title blocked in dark blue to the spine. With the dust jacket. Map of Kerry to the endpapers. Slight lean, spots of foxing top the edges, contemporary ownership inscription to first blank, else very good in slightly rubbed jacket.
