First edition. "Deals with the aid Nepal rendered to India during the Mutiny … and the failure of Britain to help the Nepalese Royal Family when they were overthrown and exiled" (Sorsky). Digby was a journalist, editor of the Ceylon Observer, 1871-6, also shorthand writer for the Legislative Council preparing the Ceylon Hansard. From 1877-9 was editor of the Madras Times, "gaining great reputation for his support of famine relief" (Riddick, Who was Who in British India). On his return to England he edited a number of papers, and was senior partner in William Hutchinson & Co., East India Agents, founder and director of the Indian Political Agency. Uncommon, just 5 copies on COPAC, 2 of these at BL. Contemporary ownership inscription of Cecil George Savile Foljambe, Liberal MP, Baron Hawkesbury, later Lord Steward of the Household. Later inscription of Clive Coates of Helperby and his linked Cs book-ticket to the front pastedown.

Octavo. Original blue diapered cloth, title gilt to spine, large block of the Nepalese royal standards to the upper board. Portrait frontispiece and 5 other portraits, folding coloured map. A touch rubbed, front hinge very slightly cracked, a very good copy.
