First edition. Biography of Sir Neville Chamberlain, a career British Army officer, who served with conspicuous valour and great distinction in numerous Indian and Afghan campaigns, including those in Delhi, Madras, Kandahar and Kabul. Shortly before his death in 1902, he was awarded the highest army rank of Field Marshal. Sir George Forest was a journalist and historian, but also spent time as professor of English and history at Elphinstone College. The materials for this biography were largely provided by Chamberlain's sister, Harriet, and by his son, Colonel Sir Neville Chamberlain.

Octavo. Original red pebble grain cloth, gilt lettering to spine, gilt top edge, blind panelling to boards, contents slightly toned throughout. Frontispiece and one other plate. Some what rubbed and soiled, particularly at the spine, front endpapers marked from the removal of a label, marginal damp-stain to the frontispiece, contents slightly toned.
