First of this revised edition of Niemöller's autobiography, first published in English in 1936 as From U-Boat to Pulpit, with additional chapters by Arthur Stuart Duncan Jones, the Dean of Chichester, bringing the account down to Niemöller's incarceration. One of the most prominent anti-Nazi voices in Germany, Niemöller was imprisoned in Sachsenhausen and Dachau from 1938 to 1945. He is probably most widely known for his formulation "First they came for " an eloquent indictment of inactivity in the face of evil.
