First and only edition, uncommon - OCLC shows only the BL copy, as also COPAC - and important. On his 5-point scale Perkins rates the book as 5 in terms of rarity, and 4 in terms of documentary value. "Although brief, this book does provide a useful summary of the Regt's evolution and various campaign services during the 19th Century. The material is neatly arranged and the appendixes are extensive. Reflecting its roots as a corps d'élite, the Regt. was given the title 123rd Outram's Rifles under the reorganizations of 1903" (Perkins). Loosely inserted in this copy are a slightly faded contemporary albumen print of a group portrait of native officers; a news-clipping relating to the regiment's services with the Zhob Field Force; and a small letter-press advertisement on pink paper for the Education Society's Steam Press.

Octavo. Original green cloth, title and regimental crest gilt to the upper board within blind panel, blind panel to the lower board, yellow surface paper endpapers. Small oval binder's ticket for the Education Society's Steam Press to the front pastedown. Slightly rubbed, some fraying head and tail of the spine, light browning, but overall a very good copy.
