Presentation copy to Earl Haig from joint author MacLeod, with a tipped in note of thanks from MacLeod to Earl Haig "wishing you a very good New Year and in remembrance of your kind and appreciative remarks when inspecting the battalion on more than one occasion in France during the war" verso of front free end paper. An account of the battalion throughout WWI. - where it was active on the Western Front at Ypres, Marne, Loos, Arras and the Somme. The battalion had the distinction of having 3 Victoria Cross winners. Authors were Officer in Command and Second Officer in Command respectively. The book usefully provides appendices and extracts from the war diary; a list of honours awarded; and a list of officers who served.
Octavo. Original blue combed cloth, with gilt lettering to spine and gold block of the regimental badge to upper board. Frontispiece and further 3 plates. Slightly rubbed at the extremities, end papers browned, otherwise an excellent copy.
