First edition, an extremely handsome publication and indispensable work of reference, containing a general history of the campaign and a series of detailed biographical accounts of officers killed in the war and recipients of the Victoria Cross, and "separate records of the services of every British officer who was employed in the war." Shadbolt, a barrister at the Inner Temple, had previously published a similar work on the Anglo-Zulu War.
2 volumes quarto. Neatly recased in the original green cloth, title gilt to spines and under boards, all edges gilt, brown surface-paper endpapers Mounted Woodburytype portrait frontispiece and 6 maps, one of them folding, to the Historical Division; Biographical Division contains 20 sheets with 7 oval mounted photographic portraits to each. Recased as noted, head- and tail-caps repaired, overall just a little rubbed, gilt supralibros of the Walford Collection to the upper boards, some foxing front and back of both volumes, else a very good set.
