First edition. An excellent account of the formation and operations of General Roberts' expeditionary force. Captain Colquhoun, R.A. arrived only in time for the action on Peiwar Kotal, but compiled a detailed account of the preparation of the force and its advance from the diary of Major Collett, the assistant quartermaster-general. A number of appendices give detailed information on the composition and ordnance of the force, and there is a useful summary by Major W.C. Anderson of the work of the Punjab Chief's Contingent in keeping open lines of communication.

Octavo. Original royal blue cloth, title gilt to the spine, blind panels to the boards. Lithographic frontispiece and four other similar plates, two folding maps and a folding table. Publisher's compliments ink-stamp to the title page, ownership inscription of the ordnance expert and military author, C.B. Brackenbury remounted on the new front endpapers, together with the amrorial bookplate of his youngest son, Hereward Brackenbury. Slightly rubbed, recased with new black surface-paper endpapers, light toning and a little foxing, largely to the fore-margin, a very good copy.
