First edition, first impression. An intriguing character, Younghusband (1863–1942) was an explorer and imperialist whose later years were spent promoting various mystical beliefs. President of the Royal Geographical Society and promoter of mountaineering, he was the author of two books on climbing in the Himalayas. This volume describes attempts on Everest and a number of other peaks in the region, with Younghusband describing them as not only "as great adventure, but a symbol and parable of man's urge to spiritual achievement".

Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine gilt, map endpapers, green top-stain. With the dust jacket. Frontispiece and 15 plates, 3 maps. Faint spotting to front endpapers. An excellent copy in the jacket that is a little rubbed and creased at the extremities with some short splits.
