ARMSTRONG, Louis.
Ma Vie. Ma Nouvelle Orléans.
Traduit de l'améeicain par Madeleine Gautier.
First edition, not published in English until 1954 when Prentice-Hall issued it under the title Satchmo. My Life in New Orleans. This copy rather ramblngly inscribed on the half-title; "Dear Frans [France/French] Readers & Friends. Hows [sic.] everybody? As for my self I am well, happy And Am having a Grand and Glorious Time, Glenn Swing[ing]ly yours, Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong." A fragile book, far from common, and extremely uncommon inscribed. "The narrative moves from Armstrong's earliest memories of turn-of-the-century New Orleans to 1922 in Chicago: opening night at the Lincoln Gardens with King Oliver." (Carner)
Octavo. Original pictorial wraps. Wraps a little rubbed, a few minor scuffs to the spine, text browned, but overall very good.
