First edition of this special issue of the cultural periodical America. Superb collection of articles - includes Sartre on Nick's Bar; Goffin on the origins of jazz and jazz and surrealism; Panassié on jazz greats; and Boris Vian "Méfie de l'orchestre [beware of the orchestra]" with photomontage Jean-Louis Bédoin - stylishly designed, and with artwork by Dubuffet, Léger, and Félix Labisse. Gives a wonderful sense of the inclusiveness of the immediate post-War jazz French scene, from Buddy Bolden to Bop and in such style. Almost unfindable in collectible condition.

Quarto. Perfect bound in the original card wraps, with cover design by Charles Delaunay. Profusely illustrated in colour and black and white. Wraps just a little rubbed, short split at the fore-edge, two small repairs to the spine, but overall an excellently preserved copy.
