First edition. Lively biography of the great Basie alumnus. This copy inscribed to Lena Horne on the title page, "To Lena, Love you always, Buck 7/17/87." A small pencil mark at p102 at Clayton's recollection of an occasion in Boston when "Charlie Barnet came by … with his vocalist, who was a then not-so-well-known Lena Horne. Lena sat at the piano and played and sang all night long."
