Garnered Sheaves.
Essays, Addresses, and Reviews.
First edition. A gathering of pieces previously published in a variety of journals, which "might otherwise not be easy to access" (Preface) Includes "On certain Burial Customs as illustrative of the Primitive Theory of the Soul," Frazer's "first serious incursion into the wide field of Comparative Anthropology," originally published in The Journal of the Archæological Institute in 1886, and his article on Taboo contributed to the ninth edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica. Loosely inserted one-page letter signed, dated in 1915, from Frazer to the botanist and geologist A.C. Seward congratulating him on his election as Master of Downing College, Cambridge. Downing held the post from 1915-36.
Octavo. Original green cloth, title gilt to spine, top edge gilt the others uncut. With the dust jacket. A very good copy in similar jacket, which is laterally creased where at some time folded into the book.
