First UK edition, first impression. Originally published in the US in the same year. Gilbreth was a pioneer in motion control studies, and though he worked closely with Frederick Winslow Taylor for a number of years, the two fundamentally disagreed about the purpose of motion control. Taylor hoped to increase speed and profits for firms, while Gilbreth sought improvements that would benefit workers directly. This book focuses on efficiency in masonry, the industry in which Gilbreth began his career.

Octavo. Original turquoise cloth, titles to spine gilt, four-line rules stamped in blind to head and tail of boards continued in gilt to spine. Diagrams and illustrations from photos throughout. Presentation copy blind stamp and pencilled price to title page. Spine toned, a little rubbed at extremities with minor wear to spine ends, endpapers tanned. A very good copy.
