First edition. Fletcher, an American spiritualist medium living in London, was sentenced to twelve months' hard labor for conspiring to obtain jewellery under false pretences. Her account of her experiences was reissued in 2003 with two other narratives under the umbrella title of Women, Madness And Spiritualism. Uncommon in this first edition. Jonathan Goodman was described by Julian Symons as "the premier English investigator of crimes past."
Octavo, original sand sand-grained cloth, title gilt to spine and upper board. Embossed stamp of crime historian Jonathan Goodman to the front free endpaper. A little rubbed at the extremities, front hinge very slightly cracked, light browning, otherwise very good.
