First edition, first printing, portfolio edition: the preferred format of one of the greatest and most influential photographic books ever published, this being the second photobook in Blossfeldt's pivotal trilogy. The artist was by training a botanist; his use of extreme close-up technique began as part of his study. However he swiftly developed a fully fledged abstracted aesthetic which found a ready audience around the world. Many subsequent photographers cite his books as a key influence on their work. This loose leaf version is by far the scarcest of all of Blossfeldt's publications and by a margin the most desirable.
Quarto. Loose leaves in the original grey cloth chemise portfolio, decoration and titles to front board and spine in red. 120 full page photogravures by Blossfeldt. Insect damage resulting in small amount of loss to the introduction booklet otherwise a superb example.
