Third edition, first published 1847, all editions uncommon. Ackers based his system on Marryat's signals meaning that it would be possible for "all Yachts to communicate with each other; as also by possessing Capt. Marryat's Book, being able to exchange Signals with vessels in the Merchant Service; but what is still more important, the saving of very much trouble to the Officers of the Navy: enabling them to communicate with all the Yachts, having this work, by the use of one book only" (Introduction). Ackers was Lord of the Manor of Moreton, rebuilding Moreton Hall in Palladian style in 1841; High Sheriff of Cheshire; he competed in the inaugural America's Cup race in 1851 in his yacht Brilliant.

Landscape duodecimo (100 × 137 mm) Original blue wavy-grain cloth, title gilt to the upper board, pale cream endpapers. 7 hand-coloured plates of flags, full-page compass rose. Slightly rubbed, front hinge neatly repaired, light browning, overall a very good copy.
