Bellegarde, a Jesuit who later became a follower of St. Francis de Sales, was best known for his successful conduct books, Réflexions sur le ridicule and Réflexions sur la politesse des mœurs. Small leather ex libris of Guy Littell, president of R.R. Donnelley and Sons,, and his wife Neva, to the front pastedown.

Octavo (194 × 114 mm). Modern bottle green morocco, title gilt to spine, green endpapers. Engraved frontispiece and 5 other plates. Spine sunned, hinges cracking, lightly browned, some pencil marginalia, a very good copy.
