Being Observations Natural History during a Voyage to China, Formosa, Borneo, Singapore, Etc., made in Her Majesty's Vessels in 1866 and 1867.
First edition. "In 18667 Collingwood served as surgeon and naturalist on board HMS Rifleman and HMS Serpent on voyages of exploration in the China seas, doing research in marine zoology. Rambles of a Naturalist on the Shores and Waters of the China Seas (1868)probably his best-known workwas the result of this" (ODNB).
Octavo. Original green sand-grained cloth, title gilt to spine, gilt block of a jellyfish to the upper board, dark green surface-paper endpapers. Engraved frontispiece and 2 other engraved plates, 6 engraved vignetted head-pieces, and a text illustration. Somewhat rubbed at the extremities, some chipping at the tail of the spine, short splits to the spine edges, upper hinge starting towards the tail, a little shaken, endpapers slightly foxed, text-block lightly toned, else a very good copy.
