First edition of this excellent account of an extraordinary trip across Russia on the Trans-Siberian Railway and then into Central Asia, Georgia, Caucasia, Turkmenistan, Bokhara and Samarkand. Superbly illustrated from the author's photographs. Bookwalter was a prominent Ohian businessman and Democratic politician, self-taught, self-made. Attractive armorial bookplate of Sir Michael Barker Nairn, Scots linoleum magnate, to the front pastedown.

Octavo. Original red cloth, title gilt to spine, gilt block of a troika to the upper board, top edge gilt. Frontispiece and numerous others illustrations, many of them full-page. Just a little rubbed, slight crease to the head of the spine, otherwise very good.
