NotesFirst edition, first printing, presentation copy to the British economist Lionel Robbins, inscribed by the contributor Fritz Machlup on the front free endpaper "To Lionel Robbins with best regards, Fritz Machlup". The Austrian economist Fritz Machlup (1902-1983) contributed the first essay, "The Nature of the International Cartel Problem". The volume "contains papers by five authors about various aspects of American policy toward international cartels after the war" (preface). Robbins, along with Keynes, was the leading British economist of the inter-war period; at the London School of Economics, he "dominated the economics department for thirty years and built it up to its pre-eminent position in British economics" (ODNB).
