A Child's History of England.
Illustrated.London: Chapman and Hall, Ltd, 1906 Stock Code: 141647
A handsomely bound copy of A Child's History of England. Dickens's history of England for children, "intensely anti-aristocratic and anti-monarchical" (ODNB), originally appeared anonymously in Household Words between January 1851 and December 1853, with the volumes published in book-form in the December of those years, post-dated to the following years. In style, subject and composition, the book differed from all Dickens's other works.
Octavo (195 x 137 mm). Contemporary red half calf, titles and floral decoration to spine gilt, two bands, marbled boards and endpapers, top edge gilt.
With black and white illustrations.
Internally nice and clean, just a touch of rubbing to the spine, an excellent copy.
