First edition of William Fleetwood's collected works. Fleetwood (1656-1723) is best known for his Chronicon Preciosum, an attempt to provide a price index of major commodities over the last six hundred years, here printed for the second time following the first edition of 1707. Fleetwood's interest in economics influenced his sermons, with the work reprinting orations where he encouraged his congregation to pay their debts despite the collapse of the South Sea Bubble, and where he denounced the clipping of coinage. With the bookplate of John Molesworth (1729-1775), MP for Cornwall from 1765 until his death. The lifted pastedown has mid-20th century handwritten notes on Fleetwood, alongside an ownership signature and a note bemoaning that the St Ives bookshop in which the copy was bought for ten shillings is no more.
Folio (376 x 226 mm). Contemporary calf, red calf label, boards entirely covered in brown paper at later date, new endpapers preserving original endpapers.
Joints cracked, extremities worn, paper on boards peeling, some light worming and a few blemishes to contents. A good copy.
