In 1742 he published this work, containing an account by John Elton and Mungo Graeme of their explorations in 1739, where they attempted to find a trans-Caspian trade route from Astrakan to Persia which the British could exploit. The work contains numerous observations on Russian and central Asian history, customs and commerce, at a time when British trade with Russia and knowledge of its interior was rapidly increasing.Description
