Foreword by Graydon Carter, Contribution by Frances Von Hofmannsthal and Tom Ford, Introduction by Patrick Kinmonth.New York, Rizzoli, 2014 Stock Code: 101278
NotesFirst edition, first printing. Signed by Snowdon on the front flyleaf. The monograph showcases the photographer's range and includes his fashion, theatre, and society photographs, portraits, as well as previously unpublished archive material such as polaroids and private correspondence. Curated by Snowdon's youngest daughter Frances von Hofmannsthal, the photographs are accompanied by interviews and text by numerous contributors, including Graydon Carter, editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair, and Patrick Kinmonth, the Anglo-Irish opera director, designer, and author. One of the key photographers of the twentieth century, Snowdon started out in fashion and theatre photography, becoming a long-term contributor to both Vogue and The Sunday Times Magazine; he became the official Royal photographer in the 1950s, bringing a more informal aesthetic to the royal portraiture.
Tall quarto. Original dark blue-grey cloth, titles to spine and front board gilt, facsimile signature in black self-portrait photograph inlay to front board, marbled endpapers.
175 colour and black-and-white full-page photographs.
A fine copy.
