In A Midsummer Night's Dream, Rackham "developed his gift for drawing witches, gnomes, fairies, and anthropomorphized trees and brought them to a pitch of vivid characterization, sometimes with an unsettling frisson of horror" (ODNB).
Quarto (305 x 235 mm). Late 20th-century red crushed morocco, raised bands, brown morocco spine label, spine lettered in gilt and decorated in four compartments in gilt, floral border to covers in gilt, top edge gilt, fore and bottom edges untrimmed, marbled endpapers.
With 40 tipped-in colour plates, including frontispiece, tissue guards captioned in brown, and black and white illustrations to the text, all by Rackham, title page printed in black and brown.
A very good copy, attractively bound, mild offsetting from brown paper mounts, occasional light foxing to contents, plates bright.
