NotesFirst edition. The firm of Thomas Kelly, famous for Kelly's Directory, was founded in 1799 and carried on the Paternoster Row tradition of publishing this and similar compendia of useful information, copiously illustrated, for the growing middle class readership.
2 volumes, quarto (261 x 213 mm). Handsomely bound in contemporary tree calf, spines richly gilt in compartments, wide raised bands gilt on stained black grounds, red morocco labels, sides with gilt Greek key panel border rolls, marbled endpapers.
Engraved frontispiece, extra engraved title-page in each volume, 32 engraved maps (of which 14 are folding) and 40 engraved plates.
Spines lightly rubbed, joints tender, small scratches to sides, corners just worn, a little faint browning or offsetting internally, still an excellent copy.
