First US edition, first printing, in the dust jacket, of Keynes's second work on the German reparations, arguing for a reduction in payments demanded from Germany.

In June 1921, Keynes had proposed to Harcourt "a final revised edition" of The Economic Consequences of the Peace, to include a new introduction of 40 pages and footnotes or appendices dealing with new criticisms and recent events. Harcourt suggested instead that the book focus on the new material, on the grounds that the public would not read a revision but merely note the changes from reviews. Keynes agreed and proposed the title German Reparation: Essays supplementary to 'The Economic Consequences of the Peace'; this was changed to the present title on the advice of Donald Brace, Harcourt's partner. The first UK edition was published by Macmillan and Co. the same year.

Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine lettered and double ruled in orange, publisher's device to front cover in orange. With dust jacket.

Bookseller's tickets to front and rear pastdowns (Subun-So of Tokyo; Paul Elder & Co. of San Francisco). Spine ends bruised, corners a touch rubbed, a little discolouration along top and bottom edges of boards, contents and book block edges foxed. Jacket soiled and chipped with one small, neat paper repair to spine partly obscuring the "vi" of "Revision". Overall a very good copy.

Moggridge A4.1.1(a).
