First edition in English, first impression, number 537 of 600 copies only. First published in 1873, this prose poem was finished in a frenzy after the break-up of Rimbaud's relationship with Verlaine who shot him with a revolver in the summer of that year. Copies in such good condition and in the jacket are rare.
Octavo. Original black buckram, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. With dust jacket.

A hint of rubbing to corners, the binding otherwise sharp, internally crisp. A fine copy in near-fine jacket, slight wear with minor loss to corners, spine panel sunned, else bright and notably fresh.
