A Season in Hell.
Done into English with an Introduction by George Frederic Lees.London: The Fortune Press, [c.1940] Stock Code: 149403
An early edition of the Fortune Press translation, first printed in 1932 as the first English language edition of Rimbaud's Saison en Enfer. This is one of 600 copies printed, with a nice example of the dust jacket. First published in 1873, this prose poem was finished in a frenzy after the break-up of Rimbaud's relationship with Verlaine who shot him with a revolver in the summer of that year.
The 1932 first edition was also one of 600 copies only, but in a different binding and comprising 88 pages (against 78 here).
Octavo. Original black boards, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket.
Title printed in red and black, 2 pp. of publisher's advertisements at end.
Minute bumping to corners, the binding otherwise sharp, light scattered foxing to contents and edges, else internally fresh. A very good copy in very good, price-clipped and peripherally sunned jacket, slight nicks to spine ends.
