A Solstice.Knotting, Bedfordshire: The Sceptre Press, 1978 Stock Code: 126111
First edition, first impression, presentation copy, inscribed by the author to his sister in the month after its publication on the title page, "For Olwyn, with love from Ted, August 1978". This copy is number 140 of 350 copies, of which only the first 100 were to be signed by the poet; this copy is, however, also signed on the limitation page. There is also a correction on line 2 of page 6, presumably by Ted Hughes, correcting "winder" for "wider".
Hughes was very close to his sister Olwyn. After Plath's suicide in 1963 Olwyn helped to bring up their children, became her brother's literary agent, established the Rainbow Press with Ted in 1971 to produce fine press editions of his works, and remained devoted to him her entire life. This copy is from the library of Frieda Hughes, daughter of Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath, though unmarked as such.
Octavo, pp. 6. Original yellow wrappers, front wrapper lettered in black, stapled as issued.
A couple of dark flecks to front wrapper. A fine copy.
