Quarto (239 x 173 mm). Contemporary dark blue calf, titles in gilt to red morocco spine label, decorative tooling in gilt to compartments, foliate roll in gilt to boards, "Witwatersrand Council of Education" medallion blocked in gilt to front board, turn-ins tooled in blind, marbled endpapers and edges.

Condition
Bookseller's ticket (James Dall & Co., Johannesburg) to front pastedwon, and prize bookplate of Witwatersrand school, dated 1922 and awarding the book to one Muriel Nevin; later bookplate (M. Schultz) to verso of front free endpaper. A couple of dents to rear board, light damp staining to fore-edges of boards and adjoining leaves, front hinge cracked but firm, very occasional faint foxing, otherwise internally clean and untoned; still an attractive copy.
